A wonderful route diversion if you are staying at Lakes to hike over to Davis Path and down to Mt Isolation. No one really travels this route much to reach Mt Isolation (the more popular route is to come up Rocky Branch from Rt 16). I started at 6:30am from Lakes Hut and saw no one until I was reemerging on Davis Path back above tree line to connect with Glen Boulder Trail. Mt Isolation lives up to its name and provides stunning views north of the Presidentials from the Summit.
Note: There is one duck under blowdown on Davis Path at head height, between the Isolation Trail East and Isolation Trail West turnoffs; if you are wearing a brimmed hat and looking down with focus on the trail as you walk north, you may miss this duck under and hit your head (like I did - ouch!). |
