| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trails well blazed and signed. Trails clear and fun BUT skip South Pond Link if it is still as wet as it has been all summer. South Pond Link is a miserable snow mobile trail with deep unavoidable mud and mosquitoes as big as crows. Of the entire Cohos Trail we both agreed this was the absolute worse section of the entire Cohos Trail! The worst mud and the worst bugs!!! |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
lots of water again today |
|
| Bugs: |
Mosquitos so thick we thought we'd get carried away by them on the South Pond Link! No bugs to whine about anywhere else. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
At the intersection of Percy Road and Bald Mt. Trail there is a pair of hiking boots hanging from the sign, very wet but look in good shape. Interesting items inside them including a full sized can opener? Also someone's food drop draped on a tree here in a bad way, bag of Cheerios on top of a plastic shopping bag I could see, Was this a bear feast left on purpose? I don't know what they were thinking leaving a pile of unattended food like that. |

Day 3/3, 10 miles. We were on the trail well before 7 am and it had rained most the night and we were in a cloud. Sadly we skipped the Percy Peak summits, but we have been there before together. We hiked out of the clouds and the sun began to poke out by the time we got to Victor Head. There is a lolly pop loop over the summit, the main trail to the left up to the viewpoint toward Percys but they were in the clouds still and lower ledge looking down on Christine Lake was nice and we took the path blazed Blue back down to the trail. Good trail and good signs and we passed by Steve's Tree. The entrance to the path to Bald Mt. is not signed but obvious. We enjoyed the panorama! Still a tad hazy but the Percys loomed large and we could see the outline of the Mahoosucs and Presies and of course the wind turbines in Berlin. I already cried about the South Pond Link, from Rt 110 it started out swell up hill and then when it flattens out, yikes! We stopped in Lancaster for lunch at the Grind, two thumbs up. Julie and I will continue our Sobo section hike but now we have completed end to end of the Cohos Trail. We are having so much fun going Sobo I bet we will keep on going again. |
