A few scattered blowdowns along Carter-Gibbs. This trail takes some care to follow in places due to its light use but that's also very much part of its appeal. |

How to avoid crowded hiking trails on a holiday weekend: Don't go where the crowds are. Oregon Mtn. for the win!
I brought a friend out here for their first visit and for the solitude that this area provides. Holy smokes there were mushrooms everywhere! Many different species and many were harvested.
I got word that Carter-Gibbs was pretty wet several days ago but it has dried out since then. There are still some muddy areas but nothing crazy. Dane Brook has flowing water but the flow is on the light side now. It was enough, however, to filter some water on the way down.
The summit of Oregon still provides a pretty good look at Cardigan, which looks massive from this perspective. The best view is seen while standing at the summit ledge.
Zero other humans sighted and it was total bliss. |
