| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parking filled up very fast. Free parking if you park at the trailhead. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Leaves - Significant/Slippery |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Easy rock hops, and nice bridges took care of the too-big water crossings. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Leaves on all the trails and a blowdown or two. Some of the water bars need help, too. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Please keep you dog on a leash, and make sure they don’t trample alpine plants. Your pup will probably enjoy the trail, as it was doable for the dogs I’ve seen hiking. |
|
| Bugs: |
Lots of big flies buzzed around near the top and at the top of Carter Dome, but they don’t bite. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Nothing (except an old hand towel), and no trash, either!!!!! Thank you for picking up after yourself! |

A great hike with great views! We swam in the smaller Carter Lake, and the little fish that live in the lake nibble off the dead skin on your feet, legs, back, ect. They even bit off a hang nail on my dad’s hand (ouch!!). Just beware that there are underwater rocks that you can stub your toe/cut yourself on.
We also climbed Mt. Hight first BEFORE Carter Dome, and we got to go down the Carter Moriah Trail. I highly recommend this way of hiking it, because you don’t have to hike up the steep trail to Carter Dome from the hut.
We got some great views even though it was supposed to thunderstorm, but it didn’t!
I hope you have fun hiking this mountain!
(And enjoy the fish????????????!!!!!) |
