| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
At the Starr King trailhead in Jefferson. I hadn't been here in a while and it looks like the parking has been expanded. I always thought the dips entering the parking area were because of washouts but they appear to be intentionally dug. Water bars? Speed control? Use caution with low clearance vehicles. |

| Dog-Related Notes: |
We had Amber with us who was the BESTEST dog on the mountain. What a sweetheart! At the summit of Waumbek we also had visits from a few other friendly pups. The spring is flowing but is best collected with a scoop. |

| Comments: |
Our team, exceptionally assembled and coordinated by our regular leader, made the VERY sweaty, tropical ascent to one of the lowest 4,000-footers as part of today's Flags On The 48 event.
Waumbek was a good fit for how rainy the weather forecast was originally looking, due to its relatively short distance, moderate ascent with good footing, and wooded summit.
Fortunately, late yesterday the forecast for today improved greatly. We encountered no rain at all and the sun was out for our hike down.
Up to Starr King, the trail was mainly damp. Along the ridge between Starr King and Waumbek there was more significant mud and standing water.
No views at all on the way up, but the Presidentials were starting to emerge from the clouds when we returned to Starr King. |
