Comments
Comments: Weather was iffy and didn't seem like a good day to go too high. Up the Sugarloaf Trail I went. I had fun squeezing through the split in the big boulders. Clouds hanging thick around 3k but the view was still pretty nice. A few swamp maples are red in the Valley, Fall is coming. Met a handful of hikers on their way up the peaks. I decided to descend via the abandoned Baby Twins Trail, this path is seeing more use since I last went down in it in 2019 and went I intersected the snowmobile trail (the one you cross on the Sugarloaf Trail) I went right and followed it until I intersected the abandoned snowmobile trail that goes down to the railbed or logging road? above the Zealand River. I followed it until where it ended at the Trestle Trail. Rock hopping over the Zealand River is never easy because it requires a big jump from one large rock to another. Cracks me up the trail goes through the campground. Back at the car I decided to cross the road and visit Wildlife Pond. This place is an under appreciated gem. The view up to Middle Sugarloaf's ledges is lovely. The trail isn't too bad, I just had to push through a few short brushy spots. Bog bridges are starting to deteriorate and the open area near the waters edge is starting to grow in too. Get it while you can. I made a fun 6 mile loop, rained on my drive home.
