| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Aside from some spots with copious mud, which could use some walkover timbers, trails were generally in good shape. Thank you, trail maintainers. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw 1 pair of Goldens, a small Beagle breed and a german shepard. Both dogs and owner very friendly. |
|
| Bugs: |
Nada. Ah, the joys of cooler weather. :-) |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Nothing to see here. However, nearly lost my OR 1 liter snack carrier, which inexplicably popped off my pack and dropped into the stream as I started my hike. Had to climb down to stream and retrieve it with a hiking pole. |

Had dropped by AMC Highland Center to see Reach The Beach relay handoff earlier that morning. This seemed like a perfect short, on my way home hike. North Sugarloaf's ledge views can't be beat for their relative effort to reward ratio. Definitely a worthwhile short hike. Hadn't been up here in many years.
Views were excellent, with a high cloud deck and less humidity. Not much sun - mostly overcast and in the 50's. Enjoyed lunch at the North Peak while taking in views. Oddly, hardly any noticeable wind, whereas experienced wind in Franconia & Crawford Notches earlier that morning.
Saw at least 2 dozen folks on this popular trail. Opted to take forest road back to Zealand Rd rather than last stream side trail section and risk dropping my snacks in the streamm again! ;-) |
