| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
This trail receives no maintenance that I am aware of. There were many blowdowns. Some of them are at inconvenient heights and others have faint herd paths around them. Barely any blazes are visible. The trail corridor is overgrown but at the same time not difficult to follow for experienced hikers. The end of the trail at its junction with the abandoned Upper Ammonoosuc Trail is marked with a single piece of flagging. |

Landing Camp Trail is probably the most notorious of all the paths in the AMC White Mountain Guide due to its quasi-abandoned state, overgrowth, mud, blowdowns, and flooded sections that require bushwhacking to get around. It's a rite of passage and Wednesday was my turn in the barrel.
Hiking this trail after a summer of rain was probably not the brightest idea, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. I like primitive trails and while this might have been a slow two miles of hiking, it was also fun in a weird way.
USFS is considering decommissioning this trail, and I can totally see why, but it would also be a shame to see it go as it's an incredibly beautiful and remote forest walk. And the view of Middle Weeks and North Weeks near the end of the trail is super. |
