Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Only crossing is at the top of the cascade way up in the gully but when the water is running high like it was yesterday, it makes for a wet but safely doable crossing with the splatter hitting the rocks. When drier you would have another option but the rocks were wet and a slip would have meant a very long fall.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Vegetation is a bit overgrown in places especially past the cascade which makes for a car wash effect.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Not a dog-friendly trail due to large boulder maneuvering on the King Ravine portion as well as needing to make use of hand holds crossing exposed areas the rest of the way.
Bugs
Bugs: A 'flock' of small whitish flies in the upper portion of the trail
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: About halfway down Airline there was a bandana sized beige cloth with frayed edges and at the top of the scenic falls route there was a red bandana. No bits of trash except for one that we picked up.

Comments
Comments: Great Gully Trail is not for the faint of heart or the hesitant - I was a little of both on the King Ravine portion but expressing my concerns out loud to my more seasoned hiking partner who listened and was reassuring, and then getting a grip (both figuratively and literally with the help of grippy gloves) it was very doable and fun and we both felt very accomplished where it tops out at Thunderstorm Junction. I was glad to have done miles and miles of mountains prior to this trail. Other than the wetness from the lifting fog of the morning (cool day) and the high water splashing from the cascade, the rocks were dry which was ideal.
