We decided to tackle the wild and stunning Ice Gulch for our trail tracing adventures. The Ice Gulch did not disappoint -it’s was as described in the 30th and 31st AMC Editions. It was sunny enough that some rocks that were more exposed dried out -however much of the gulch was super saturated -moss, rocks, bits of ground - everything soaked and slippery. This made for a dazzling show of green, while we slowly and very gingerly wound our way up into the gulch. We weren’t sure which was was better, but we did end up ascending and picked up Peboamauk Loop at the beginning. Before and after the gulch, trails were generally dry with some good patches of mud along the way. It was a stunner of a day -super tough -glad we did it! |
