Trail around pond MSG splits (east and west of pond). Started hiking on east side trail, which traveled up a stream than into a very swampy area. Turned around and went on the west side trail. After another hiker on the trail said that the west side trail was to correct one to take.
Wanted to make a loop for variety, but wished I had hiked out and back on the Barney Brook trail, instead. Started up Jetts Rd, where were multiple puddles with the sheen of oil on the top, yuk. Was happy to enter the Andona Forest. Trail maps indicated 2 ways around the pond close to the summit, but as described above, the best (correct) route is on the west side. Blue trail (BBT) down was great, I understand why others have noted that this is a wonderful hike, like an emerald forest at times. Walked further up road to non-posted opening on east side to enter woods and hike to summit of Healey Hill, jar on rock. |
