Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small parking area on a narrow road with room for a few cars. Low clearance cars may need to use caution. I believe there were two other cars that were leaving as we arrived at 5:30pm. They were at the end of the road by the gate. We parked further back.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I believe the footpaths were blazed in yellow and well blazed but were also very obscure at times and not too well travelled. I don’t think the roads were blazed. Jcts were usually signed but the signs were often small and not terribly obvious. I don’t think there were any blowdowns on the road but I believe there were one or two on the footpaths with herd paths around them. Nothing huge.

Comments
Comments: After a great whack of Moosilauke with the Old Man and the Saw, the CCC and I had time for a little SNH redlining. Upon realizing I hadn’t brought the guidebook with me, we dropped in to the Mountain Wanderer to purchase a “car copy”’and we were rip roaring and ready to go!

We hiked the Little Pond and Cliffs Loop in the Cockermouth Forest as described in the guidebook. The roads were very wet and mucky at times. The footpaths were rather obscure as well which surprised me. Little Pond was beautiful and there was a nice view of Cardigan from the ledge. The 15yd view spur was not hard to find though I recommend hiking Cliff Loop counterclockwise as the guidebook describes as it will be easier to see. As far as I recall, the footpaths were dry unlike the roads. Note that the location of the footpaths on Gaia is not 100% accurate though I think some of this may be recent reroutes. Gaia had us at about 4mi, 700ft of gain, 1.5hrs.
