| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked at the trailhead nearest the trail. The other lot is very close also. There was a discussion amongst the hikers on this day as to whether the fish hatchery gate to the approach road REALLY closes at 4:00 pm. Some of us hustled to make it down on time. Others were still up there and I wonder how it played out. |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
One water crossing required careful stepping on rocks but feet stayed dry. Other water crossings were numerous but tiny and easy. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
After the 2 mile mark there are some dunk under and step overs. Trail is still easy to walk. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
I saw no dogs today but the trail seems good if dogs can cover the mileage. |

This was my first time up Cabot which was a wonderful trail and one of the easier 48 I've done lately. No steep parts really - all moderate or easy, with many flat parts. Interesting how the trail goes along the West Branch Upper Ammonoosuc River for a long ways in the river valley and the curls around the mountain and then zig zags up switchbacks so as never to cut up a steep ravine. Mostly a wooded trail with one nice lookout point. The cabin was very nice looking. A man who slept there last night was showing everybody photos of the moose he met on the summit! |
