Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We spotted a car outside the gate at South Pond Recreation Area in Stark (now closed for the season; this involves a 1.1 mi. road walk to reach the northern terminus of Kilkenny Ridge Trail) and drove down to the Berlin Fish Hatchery where we started the hike. The drive between these two locations is about 15 miles.

Water Crossing Notes: Nothing of note.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Mill Brook Trail is now in excellent shape now that it is being lovingly cared for by its new volunteer maintainers. Thank you! From the Mill Brook junction to Rogers Ledge, Kilkenny Ridge Trail is in great shape. North of Rogers Ledge there are lots and lots of blowdowns and the corridor is lesser-maintained.

Comments: A gorgeous day in the Kilkenny!

With two vehicles we were able to do this northbound traverse of about 9.5 mi. We thought about also doing the side trip into Devil's Hopyard but time didn't allow for it.

Mill Brook Trail is perhaps the easiest route up to the ridge. It's gentle the whole way and is a joy to hike. The only real climbing is the final 0.6 mi. up to the ledge along the ridge.

Views from the top were still great but very hazy from the Canadian wildfires. Looking down, we could see that foliage is definitely starting to pop in this region. This weekend will be even more improved and next weekend should be really good.

South of Rogers Ledge, conditions were mainly dry with very little mud. North of the ledge there were some long stretches of mud mixed in with dry walking. All streams are flowing well should you want to filter along the way.

We only saw two other people, a young couple with no gear who were heading up at 2:45 p.m. I hope they turned around or otherwise managed to stay safe. It's getting dark a lot earlier now.
