Able to cross Sucker Brook easily right at the trail but higher water would make this tough. Otherwise just a couple small brooks to cross on CMT. |

Just a couple patches of mud on CMT which you can get through on rocks and a couple broken boardwalks. Most of mud was on TPT heading from CMT toward DHCO and on first half of DHCO. MKT was mostly dry.
TPT to CMT is a wide trail which is also a snowmobile trail. CMT is a more typical narrow hiking trail and footing is good all the way (no major roots, rocks or boulders). Very wooded and relatively dry except for a couple patches of mud. Probably beautiful in winter. Can climb old stairs up to one of the pilings from an old fire tower and have a view north to Moosilauke peaking over the trees. Three Ponds shelter looks old except for the roof which appears to be very new. Three Ponds is a beautiful pond between Carr and Kineo with the shelter above the pond. Very peaceful. DHCO was a typical narrow trail with roots. Comes out at a bridge on the left to Hubbard Brook Road but I continued straight on MKT back to Stinson Lake Road. MKT follows Brown Brook and even passes a small waterfall. MKT is partially wide snowmobile trail and partially narrow hiking trail. Overall a peaceful hike in the woods. Don’t do this one for the destination and views from the summit (of which there really are none except the huge concrete pilings from the old fire tower). Do this one for the peaceful walk that it is and for the opportunity to see Three Ponds Shelter and the peaceful pond. |
