Have been wanting to go back to Spaulding Lake and spend some time - this time I brought the packraft. Although the pond isn't big or deep, it's very clear, has good access right next to trail and is fun to float around and look at the Great Gulf headwall while enjoying lunch. Some interesting bugs in the water - kinda fun to watch them. I don't remember this trail being all that difficult below the pond but today it was challenging for me - the rocks seemed super slippery near the cascades and it took me a long time to be super careful - also a bit awkward with big pack with raft in it, tho. On my descent (mid-afternoon) - there were plenty of backpackers heading up - campsites were filling up!!! |
