Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking lot across from the trailhead is partly taken up with construction equipment, the rest of the lot filled with cars at 7:30 AM. Plenty of space along the road. The restrooms at Crawford Depot were closed at 7:30 AM, open later in the day, not sure what the hours are.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: A little less than a mile in, there is a stream crossing that is not really difficult, but is worth some care and looking around for the best spot. Otherwise, all easy rock hops or step-overs.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is in good condition and mostly easy to follow. A few more blazes would be helpful in spots, where there are confusing herd paths, or where the trail is indistinguishable from a stream bed. One blowdown step-over/straddle-over above Bugle Cliff junction. A couple walk-under/duck-unders below the Jackson-Webster fork. Also a couple blowdowns above the fork, which have herd paths around them.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw quite a few, seemed to be doing OK. Some dogs might need help on the ledges near the summit. The whole trail is rough and rocky. Plenty of water on the trail currently.
Bugs
Bugs: None.

Comments
Comments: This trail is quite "bony", lots of rocks and roots, but what else is new for this neck of the woods? It was also wet from recent rain, quite a bit of mud, but mostly avoidable or firm enough to walk on. The ledges approaching the summit are a little challenging, but not too bad if you take your time and choose a good route. The ledges were dry, which is a good thing. The view from the summit is great, but today there was a lot of smoky haze, probably from Canadian wildfires. Mt. Washington and the southern peaks were all visible, but through the haze, dimly.
Some nice early fall color is showing up.
