Julie and I met the other RMC volunteers and then we took off to start lopping at elevation 2600 and we battled hobble bush and spruce limbs and a couple of minor blowdowns all the way to the summit of Owlshead, where the RMC's trail ends. After a good late lunch break on top of the ledges and the view was not good due to forest fire smoke from Quebec. We could barely see the outline of Mt. Washington. Martha's mile was delightful and then we headed down the hiking trail/snowmo trail. Good footbed. We joked this is the first section of the Cohos Trail we have done this summer that our feet didn't get wet! Yahoo. We did a short bushwhack to the Cherry Mountain summit, nice ferns and lots of moose sign. Hiking down Cherry Mountain Road to our car spotted at Rte 302 was most pleasant. The foliage around the pond with Mt. Deception's reflect was beautiful. A long grand day. Made it back to the trailhead to see a few of the other volunteers, enjoyed the cookies and beverage thank you. VOLUNTEER it is fun. |
