Comments
Comments: This is a gradual forest walk along North Branch Gale River to the steeper rocky last mile or so to Garfield Ridge junction. Good footing all he way o the hut and over to the Spur to Galehead Mtn. Twinway to South Twin is a very steep climb with some big boulders and a bit of slab but there was good footing and no loose rocks. From Galehead Hut to the summit of South Twin is short with over 1000 feet of elevation gain. We were in the clouds throughout this climb with a few breaks and some views, however it was warm and dry throughout our hike. There was evidence of some serious mud on the Spur to North but it was pretty dry on this day. The long, fairly steep descent down to the river has some erosion and some gravel and rolling rocks under your feet. Once we did the wide fairly easy crossing of Little river, four of us had missed the new official trail plus it did not seem as well marked as all the other trails we encountered on this great loop over both summits! I loved this hike and highly recommend it with a stay at the hut to get these 4000 footers.
