Periwig Mtn in Hill, not far from Old Hill Village but on opposite side of 3A. In the heart of William H Thomas State Forest. Walked about a mile northwest on Bootjack Rd to height-of-land then walked the ridge northeast, hitting each bump. Very pleasant, mostly open land with occasional grassy spots and ledgy outcroppings. Middle bump is likely the highpoint but I continued down and up to the recognized bump (cairn) at northeast end of ridge as marked on the maps. Very pleasant ridgewalk with some places you could almost see the river (not many). Maybe a lot better once leaves are gone? From eastern-most "summit" bump I went straight south, which was very steep with occasional rock fields. about halfway down I hit a very indistinct woods road which went mostly to my car. |
