Comments
Comments: A gorgeous day to explore Mt. Mist and the surrounding area — Wachipauka Pond Trail was mostly dry except for a few muddy areas near the log puncheons; fallen leaves obscured much of the rest of the footpath, but in general I found the trail easy to follow. Shortly after starting the ascent of Mt. Mist from the north side, I visited the short spur path and found limited views at the outlook; I continued up the main trail and started bushwhacking E at 2,000 ft., eventually reaching the destination cliffs and a big view down to the pond and across to Mt. Moosilauke. Light winds and a good showing of fall colors made for a fine extended stay at this ledge. A short bushwhack brought me up to the summit of Mt. Mist and then back to the trail; only two other hikers were encountered during the entire trip. I’ve posted a photo from the cliff viewpoint at the link below.
