The theme of the day was rock hopping... there are good long stretches of water flowing on the trail and plenty of mud but if you stay on top of the rocks you can avoid most of it. Right foot went about 8 inches deep into the mud three times otherwise mud wasn't too bad. I know nobody likes Isolation but it was not as bad as I expected. Sure there's a ton of rocks and water and mud but the trail basically never gets steep and the views from the summit have the potential to be pretty good. Bushwhacks suck, maybe saves you a mile or two overall but barely even seemed like herd trails. Tried to use the Strava heat map to inform the highest traffic paths but really there was little to follow the majority of the time, freshly fallen leaves didn't help. I'd stay on the main trails and call it a day. |
