| Comments: |
This entire route was dry except for one mud pit on Bald Ledge Trail between the turn at the logging clearing and the start of the footpath section.
From the main ledge, I descended the lightly-used and now-red-blazed trail (old yellow blazes are still visible) to its end at West Shore Rd. There is no good parking here as it's a narrow road with adjacent private driveways; the best access is from the top of the trail. A sign at the bottom states that this trail runs through York Conservation Area and is managed by the Lake Winona Association. Of interest to hikers along this trail is an outlook ledge 0.2 mi. down from the top and an attractive cascade about 0.4 mi. down.
I turned around and went back up that trail and used the woods roads that Bald Ledge Trail initially follows to loop around to the NW and W back to Sky Pond Rd. opposite the boat launch.
This was an interesting variation on this hike, which I usually do as a quick out-and-back. |
