Comments
Comments: The goal for this bushwhack was to find a nice view ledge on the lower slopes of Mt. Tremont’s NW ridge, which I was hoping would provide a good view down to Sawyer Pond.

I left the Sawyer Pond Trail outside of the FPA, aiming to contour east across the side of the NW spur ridge; after 45 minutes, I got closer to the main slabs and encountered many large boulders, which forced me slightly lower on the slope. My first attempt at finding the ledge involved ascending a steep (40-degree) gully, which unfortunately did not provide any safe access to the cliffs. For the second attempt, I side-hilled 300 ft. west to what looked like a promising vantage, but found that the view was blocked by a large tree. I then made a full descent and re-ascended to another cliff, traveling through thick and steep woods and eventually reaching a fine view ledge at 2,630 ft.; from here I took in a breathtaking view of the pond and a nice profile of Green’s Cliff among the foliage.
