Route:
Signal Ridge > Carrigain Notch > Desolation trl > Signal Ridge > end.
Forgive me, it’s been a bit since I’ve submitted a report. May be a bit rusty.
Signal Ridge: not blazed save the two reroutes that are well blazed in yellow. All signs up, legible. This trail has had substantial foot traffic thereby grinding down the leaves. Rocks in upper elevations were wet, but only a minor hazard.
Carrigain Notch: not blazed. Significant leaf litter hides mud, rocks, and roots. I had to pay attention to stay on trail though it was not tough to do so. The thick leaf litter slowed my pace as I had to monitor for hidden obstacles. Much less foot traffic. New sign at Nancy Pond junction.
Desolation Trail: not blazed. The predominant amount of pine trees kept leaf litter levels low. No issues following the trail. The gnarly rock scramble contained rocks slathered in moisture, algae and moss. Super slick! In fact, I can’t remember a single time the rocks were dry… But slow going and careful footing made it no issue to go up this segment. This bit is not exposed, just a steep rock scramble. Signs up (one new), legible.
No ice. Just wet from rain. |
