Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Only a few cars at Gale River at 7am for the car spot, then just a few at the end of Haystack Rd. At the end of the day, there were more cars at Gale River; we encountered quite a number of hikers going up to the hut for the night. Note - there is no sign at the intersection of Route 3 and Haystack Rd, other than the generic hiking symbol one just before the intersection.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant, Leaves - Significant/Slippery

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Little River crossing (now only one) had us looking downstream maybe 50 yards for a less intimidating rock-hop. This was a case of it's being fairly easy for the youngest, scary for the oldest. The two on the Gale River trail were easy rock hops. Waterproof footwear certainly is advisable.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails were in good shape. There is one place, among the multiple wet, muddy places on the spur from North to South Twin, that could use a well-placed rock. On that one, I planted one pole on a small branch laid to one side, the other in a spot under water that was firm, and "pole-vaulted" over to a rock. The rest of the many muddy spots we encountered all day long were either easily avoided or shallow/firm enough to pass right over. As with most of the trails up here, really good, dry footwear is absolutely essential.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None the whole day.

Comments
Comments: A nice, but very long day with the OTHH. It was surprising to find the Galehead hut still open. Closing is set for October 21 (Saturday) this year.
