Comments
Comments: Monday, 10/23, was a challenging day for the Carters. We started from Camp Dodge after the short road walk and hiked the loop counter clockwise. The Imp Trail was like a river most of the time, very muddy and slippery. At the intersection of the N. Carter trail, snow began. The trees had a heavy coating of snow that was falling on us. Pack covers were helpful. It was also drizzling at times. Up on the ridge the snow was heavier, but microspikes were not needed. The trail was so muddy, it melted the snow. The temperature was above freezing, so it wasn’t too icy. The trail up to Carter Dome was muddy with wet leaves—Snow in the woods and on the trees. Be sure to have more than one pair of gloves, socks, and extra layers. A rain shell over a warmer jacket is needed to stay dry and warm in these conditions. Pack the spikes, it won’t be long.
