Nice easy hike to go on and have a relaxing lunch at east pond. 800 foot elevation gain, 1.3 miles to pond, 2.6 round trip. beautiful foliage this week. if you wanted to do a longer hike, add the loop in to little east pond. encountered a flock of pine siskens near pond. This pond was once mined a century ago for diatomaceous earth. The slurry was sluiced by pipe downhill to the mill, about a quarter mile from the trailhead. The ruins of the mill still stand. check it out. Also, at the mill stands a large quaking aspen tree. This is a co champ for the largest quaking aspen in the state of NH. Great lunch spot. spent about 1 1/2 hours just relaxing . views from pond in pics are looking north. Happy trails, D&D |
