Fine day for a big hike. The hike up Imp Trail was good and it was pretty in the woods. Soon I was hiking in my short sleeve shirt, just a breath of wind. I started the bushwhack to Lethe on a well established herd path and when I reached the end I didn't think it was the highpoint since I could look just North and see a higher place. A short rugged whack to a nice open area and felt satisfied with the result. A hiker with no shirt headed North passed me by and said can you believe it is so warm. The trip to Zeta Pass went by rather quickly and soon I was on top of Mt.Hight, I was here a few weeks ago but this time there was little wind and a big view. The Pressies were in and out of the clouds all day, fun viewing. Up and over Carter Dome and the Carter Lakes were like glass reflecting the cliffs above. I ate my lunch about half way up Wildcat. Mudpit to get to the view ledge on Wildcat was big. And all the mud pits in between to Wildcat D were impressive and the trail keeps getting wider. Good viewing from the tower. Once at the top of the ski area I decided to go out and back to Wildcat E. I descended different ski trails this time around--Upper Catapult, trails muddy and mowed and then down under the quad. The bridge at the ski lodge is under construction, to cross the river there are signs pointing a little south, downstream, to another bridge to that connects to the main parking lot. I stood by the Wildcat Ski Area entrance sign for ten minutes before I hitched a ride. I saw six people all day. |
