Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hops with some slightly submerged rocks. One in our group chose waders as a precaution and I do know of someone that slipped on the wet rocks and took a bit of a dunk, but the crossings were not terrible given how rainy it has been this year.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The official trails are in great shape! The Black Pond bushwhack continues to be super sad because there are a large number of herd paths with a lot of unnecessary destruction to the foliage. It will never happen but it would be awesome if we could make one official trail in there. Ditto for Brutus as the erosion is starting to be a real problem on the herdpath that takes a left at the drainage and climbs up next to it. What’s really funny about Brutus is that it now has two cairns. Those are certainly not official!!

Comments
Comments: It was a great day to hike Owl’s Head and a lot of familiar faces had the same idea! Our group of 3 hikers collectively saw more than a dozen people that we know. We could feel the strong wind on the ridge walk to the official summit, and I was glad that we had changed our hiking plan to this.
The best news of the day is that we saw the logging camp 12 bucket! It usually hangs out on a tree near or on the relocation but I didn’t personally see it when I hiked this route in April 2023, so I feared the worst - that someone had illegally removed it. What a great moment to see it lounging comfortably next to a boulder near the north end of the relocation! As the unofficial protector of, and for sure the largest fan of, the logging camp 12 bucket, I encourage you to send along any reports of sightings (or lack of sightings) of this cherished artifact. You know where to find me! ;)
