Comments
Comments: From the start, the trail was snow covered, maybe half to one inch. This, mixed with leaves, running water in places and around 25F meant that at some point, the rock spikes were going to be needed. This happened about halfway up the steep section before Avalon Spur trails because of black ice. It remained like that all the way to the junction with Mt Tom Spur. The A-Z trail was almost devoid of ice. Obviously, the conditions will change with the warmer temps coming but it is a reminder that from now, carrying traction aid is a must. This was a beautiful day to be out in the mountains. We decided on these peaks because of the wind forecast on the higher summits, not sure if that was accurate but I needed these two for November anyway. We met only seven people total, all while going down. Everyone seemed ready for a winter hike, which it was today. We had a great day, blue sky and friendly hikers around us, couldn't be better.
