Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, November 2, 2023
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at the Cog and paid the fee. Since I came down the Cog I felt that the payment was fair.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Wet Trail, Ice - Blue
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Gem pool needs a little bit of caution, test the rocks with poles for ice. All other water crossings were fine
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There was more ice on Ammo then we expected forcing us to eventually put on good microspikes or Hillsounds. My initial rock spikes did not cut it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lucy did fine thanks to her "four wheel drive". She is very agile and handled Ammo very well, better than we did.

Comments
Comments: the Ammo trail was a real challenge to get up to LOC in one piece. I would not recommend it, particularly coming down. Met a hiker coming down who had gone up to the LOC location to skate on the ponds, yes, to skate up there. It is his hobby and he seemed to know how to check for safety. John and I were impressed. It was a new twist to the many odd hobbies people do up high. Crawford Path to Washington had snow but no real ice. The forecasted wind and cold temps did not realize today. A bluebird day up high. Sargent Pepper, AK the professor's, comment about the trail along the Cog was spot on. I followed their tracks down.
