Beautiful if cool day. Only saw two others the whole day not counting the maintenance crew riding up to the top of D. This being my first time going up the ski trails I just followed the signs until they didn't exist (which means there were just a couple of signs). But the idea is to stay along the edges on the Polecats, always taking a left whenever there's a choice (some lefts were unmarked and unnamed). When I stopped on A, I took off my gloves to eat and by the time I put them back on my fingers were pretty frozen. No wind luckily but a crisp, clear day. Some ice all along Wildcat but no spikes on the way to A and was no problem. I did put them on for the return thinking it would expedite the return and it probably helped somewhat. I started up around 11 am but if the lifts were operating I would have had to hit the trail by 7 to get up to D which took about an hour and a half. Total time including stops and backtracking in a couple of spots was 6.5 hrs. A little over 8 miles round trip. Test run for my winter peak bagging. |
