First sign of snow was just above 3k feet on Gorge Brook and it was next to nothing at that point. Bare booted all the way to about 4500’ and then threw rock spikes on but could have gotten away with bare booting the whole way. Patchy ice in spots up high. Nothing of significance snow wise at any point. Windy up at the summit but not as bad as expected. Probably steady 25-30mph gusts of 35/40. The spur to South Peak was quick moving with spikes. Not too much ice at all. Took the spikes off 1/4 mile past the junction with Glencliff on Carriage Rd. Snapper as always regardless of conditions is fast moving. Trace snow/ice here and there. Zero need for spikes on that trail. Slow morning for people. Didn’t see anyone until I was almost to Snapper. Nice unexpected sunrise this morning! Figured I would be socked in but turned out to be one of those rare clearish days on the Moose! |
