| Water Crossing Notes: |
Little River was low and not moving fast. I did read Monkey's report from Friday and I am jelly that they were able to rock hop :) Well done Monkey! I was not confident in my short legs being able to reach any of the exposed rocks, so instead of risking falling in, I chose to walk through and change my socks on the other side. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Overall in good shape. The usual suspects for the blowdowns...all easy to step over. |

Not sure how much will change with the forecast this week...but this is what Sunday was like: Kodiak and I experienced every possible train condition out there today! The beginning of N. Twin Trail still has mud and leaves. Around 3200 ft started to see a bit of snow and ice, and then around 3800 ft put the Hillsounds on. From here all the way to S.Twin there was a lot of snow and ice, and some nice packed snow, totally fine with the Hillsounds. After S. Twin there was still snow and ice, and some packed snow, and also some bare spots here and there. The closer I got to the Twinway junction, there were more bare spots, but I left the Hillsounds on. Once I got on Twinway heading to Zealand, there was even more bare trail, but still enough icy patches for me to leave on the traction. This is also where I started to see some mud that was not frozen. After Zealand, it started to get more bare, and more muddy sections. I took my traction on and off a few times for some icy patches, and finally put them away a little before Zealand Falls (I really did not even need them on for this long, and at this point they were just picking up leaves lol, and they were rock spikes so was not worried about ruining a nice new pair). Once on Lend-a-Hand, there was plenty of mud and water on the trails all the way to the summit of Hale. The initial descent on Fire Warden's Trail had some slick icy/snow, but not for long. And then mud, mud, mud...and more mud... |
