I needed the northern part of the Three Ponds Tr for my trace, so off we went. This should be marked as an "attempt" since I did not reach the third pond but I made it to two of them so I'll keep it as successful.
The first part of the trail from 118 is on logging roads and soon changes to a nice hardwood forest with an easy ascent to the west side of Whitcher Hill. After reaching the high point on the trail, it gets progressively more muddy/wet and stays that way for much of the remainder, including a very wet section along Foxglove Pond and culminating in a final 20-30 yard stretch that you'd have to swim (thanks beavers!) to make it to the trail intersection with Donkey Hill Cutoff. If you need to make it across, work your way north until you can find a place to cross the stream.
Still a fun day out with the pup. Lots of moose sign but none spotted. No ice on this trail yet. |
