Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Bibergeist. They're back. The beaver have flooded the road/trail between the path split and the Old Johnson cellar hole. Right now it's just a few inches, and part of it has a narrow raised area one can use to stay dry as long as it lasts, but after that the boots will get wet. They look to be a hard working crew so I'd predict the water will rise unless logging forces a change. Years ago the flooding was extensive. While their work on the two culverts for the dike preceding the path split is quite impressive, forming nice semi-circles, the pond they've created behind them is on the upstream side and not threatening the road/dike. Otherwise the trails are in pretty good shape with a leaning duck under blowdown on (I think my memory fails) on Horseshoe Pond nearing Conant. There are pockets of slippery beech leaves. Paint blazes aren't common in places but even filled with leaves the footbed can be following, as could the trail corridor.

Comments
Comments: Perhaps associated with the log truck traffic warning signs, I heard some equipment operating further east on/off Deer Hill Rd of where I parked but I didn't check it out. Timber has been marked for cutting in the area between the FR 9A road/dike and along the road towards the old Johnson cellarhole. If they log that area then they may have to address the beaver flooding for trucking.
