A very enjoyable hike with good trails and footing. The beginning of the trail to where it meets the turn for Champney falls was well trodden and clear of any snow or ice on the actual trail. Leaves weren't even that slippery. A few spots of light mud that should freeze up soon. After the left turn for the falls, where I went straight/right, the ice and snow picked up a bit with some sketchy black ice on the rocks right after this area. Managed to bare boot it to the summit; though I could see it warranting spikes on the way up at some points, I was moving comfortably and quickly without. A nice layer of ice forming under a layer of snow as I got higher. Near the summit some rocks were bare from the sun, others ice and snow crusted. Those views are incredible! Used spikes on the way down but removed them about 2/3 the way down as I was back on the no ice/leafy trail. |
