Wow! Today turned out to be amazing with virtually no wind, mild temperatures, and endless views under clear blue skies. The parking lot was a little icy in the morning, but had melted off considerably when we finished up. We barebooted for the first mile and then put on microspikes for the remainder of the hike. The typical ice floe areas on Ammo were there, but there was a layer of soft snow on most of these that made it easy to get a grip with the spikes. Heading up Monroe, there was all snow and no ice, so the sketchy area was much easier to negotiate than when it’s icy. Up Washington was fine with microspikes. We descended next to the Cog railway which will be better with a little more snow as some rocks are poking up still. |
