Comments
Comments: Nice mid-fall day, with full sun, hardly any breeze at all up top, still air below the tops. A few others were out on the trails. Went up the ladders to Morgan, down the ledges off Percival. C-R trail between peaks had a fair amount of well-trodden icy snow. Right off the top of Morgan (or at least where the open viewing ledges are, there is a short blazed trail to a spot on a perhaps higher ledge that has a brass survey marker on it. There was a light snow layer there, but with no evidence of foot travel past there - a dead end. We backed out, took the trail that would bypass the ladders and head back down to rte 113, and at the trail sign for the C-R trail over to Percival we turned onto that. Shortly past there, we came to a point where there was a lot of foot travel evidence in the icy snow, and we kept on that, only to come to a dead end perhaps a hundred yards lower. Following a downloaded trail route, we retraced to a point where we should have taken a sharp left up a ledge piece. There was a little bit of dead branch pile at that point, I think indicating that the trail doesn't go that way, but we had stepped over it, following the mistakes of others. Once we came back we saw where the trail takes that sharp left; I dragged a few more pieces of tree branches over to add to the mini-pile already there, in the hopes of alerting others not to go that way. This would not be a problem coming over C-R from Percival to Morgan. Going down off Percival, the leaves covered much of the trail in places and were quite slippery. One of us fell twice on the way down the steepest parts. Low down on the Mt Percival trail, we kept looking for the Morse trail to take through the woods to where we had parked, but never saw it. We wound up doing a road walk on rte 113.
