Jefferson Notch rd is still open, not sure how much longer that'll be. Currently, gets a bit icy about a mile from the ridge. I think I was the only car at Caps Ridge trailhead all day. |

Really nice day out in the Whites but most trailheads seemed pretty empty. Shoulder season is awesome! And seemed like no one else on Mount Jefferson today. Took Caps Ridge trail all the way up. Decided to put on traction at about 4100ft elevation. May not have needed it but started to see some rocks with a nice icy crust and figured better safe than sorry. At about 5300ft got above the undercast clouds and had great views towards Washington. Seems like a lot of the snow that was around has mostly melted. Excellent 360 views over the undercast clouds from the summit today. Looped back down via Six Husbands and Gulfside. Six Husbands had the most snow of the day and got to do a little post holing here (sorry). The small portion of Gulfside that I did do seem like it had been totally untouched for at least a few days. Back down Caps Ridge... had gotten a slight dusting of snow but otherwise uneventful. Nothing on this hike was particularly hard to climb nor get around considering the season. This was no 48 of 48 for me ;) |
