We bare booted up to Middle Tripyramid with trekking poles. The last steep section before North Tripyramid had lots of ice patches. We made regular use of trees as hand holds there. We originally planned to do South, but we didn't want to run out of daylight. On the way down, I put on microspikes for the steep icy section and one other steep section, while my friend bare booted. In the first 1-2 miles there are some deceptively deep mud patches (8-12"? we submerged trekking poles pretty far), but it's avoidable by walking on logs and rocks. Once there is more ice and snow soon, I would want traction for the steep parts both ways. |
