Cherry Mtn Rd is closed as of today. Tried to get there before it closed to avoid the road walk, but not today. Parked off the road couple hundred yds before gate. |

Open woods would be OK for some pups, but generally BW not great for most. |

Road closed probably due to the snow fall arriving tonite; looked like it was closed just before we arrived at 8.
Took the road walk up to campsite 7 and jumped into the woods at one corner with a path leading to the nearby small stream. Crossed over and started heading up in the open forest. Woods became much steeper closer to the West summit. Intended to head north of the west peak, but ended up too close to the ridge line where there are a lot of blowdowns. Took some effort and multiple attempts to get around. Canister is on the edge of one section of blowdowns on a leaning tree. As noted in previous reports, someone with tools may want to come up to move to a better tree location.
For the return we took a more north west route staying north of the west peak summit. The footing was sidewise on the hillside of the mountain; but the woods were much cleaner. Towards the lower elevations we rejoined our ascending foot steps through the woods, along the road and back to our cars. Snow depth was 3-4 inches. |
