Comments
Comments: Some wandering about on Mt. Monadnock with only a loose route plan; I didn't summit.

As mentioned above, the mountain is very wet right now. Conditions were slippery and slushy with lots of wet ledge. Cascade Link was a running stream in places.

I put spikes on when I reached Pumpelly and left them on until I was about half way down Red Spot. Red Spot was difficult to descend today because of the conditions and its general roughness.

It looks like temps will be getting colder at night so the current wetness is going to become "interesting" without some snow cover. Snow depths were minimal; a trace to a few inches on top. Bare ledges had been scoured clean by the wind, which was howling today.

Along the ridge I encountered an ill-equipped hiker. He stated that he came up White Dot and thought he was going back the same way but in fact he was on Pumpelly headed toward Dublin Lake. I sent him down toward Cascade Link and I hope he got out ok.

Back at Gilson Pond I got to watch a beaver gathering some sticks and two otters at play, so that was pretty cool.

The ridge stayed inside a cloud most of the morning but of course the skies cleared as I was heading down. I should know better by now. :D If you were up there in the afternoon, you got the best part of the day!
