| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The pull-off at the trailhead is NOT plowed, but the snowbanks are small enough right now that we were able to park three cars with the right half of the car on the snow and the left half on the road without blocking Rt. 302 traffic. It's best if you have a shovel in your car, in case you get stuck. |

Not close to being frozen yet, but all were easy rock hops. |

The yellow blazes are frequent and make the trail pretty easy to follow. |

The trail is steep in places, but it should be manageable with a dog. |

| Comments: |
The snow ranged from about 6 inches deep at the base to about 12 inches higher up, wetter near the bottom and more powdery towards the top. The snow covered everything pretty uniformly, with not too many rocks exposed, and those rocks were mostly avoidable, so one could even have used snowshoes. We were breaking trail almost the entire way, but we had nine people in microspikes going both ways, so it is fairly well packed down now, and I'd recommend microspikes for anyone planning to hike this trail before the next snowfall.
The only people we met all day were a couple right very close to the trailhead who had a permit to chop down a tree to use as a Christmas tree, but they didn't find a suitable one.
We heard hunters firing their rifles many times, to our west, not too far away, so it might not be a bad idea to wear some blaze orange. |
