Comments: Great day. I bare booted to Crawford, but could've used spikes. Just didn't really need them. I like to extend their lifespan. The trail wasn't broke out from Crawford towards Stairs but I brought my snowshoes, so I was in luck. Saw a black bear around the Parker junction off to the left, popped its head up, didn't get a good look at how big it was, about 20 yards and he/she seemed interested in me and didn't run away immediately. Clanged my poles together and yelled, did the trick. Saw the same one a few mins later but ran away fast down the hill. Had me on edge a bit climbing up Stairs, which had some deep powder (easily 10+ inches in spots). There were bear tracks everywhere around the spur trail - must be some sorta lair up there. Also saw a print over my snowshoe marks coming back. I must've smelled like turkey.
