Glorious sunshine today in the Moose Mountains Reservation. :) Not much snow left around these parts; the trails were a mix of bare ground and quickly melting snow. The upper ledges along the ridge are starting to accumulate some black ice though. No traction necessary today.
If you've been up on this ridge then you know there is quite a menagerie of old roads, cart paths, and bootleg trails. I followed a blue-blazed trail out across the ridge to the wooded high point. The sign and register are in good condition.
For the descent I also used blue-blazed paths and a couple of short bushwhacks to get back to Moose Mountains Trail. In the pitch pine forest, someone has taken it upon themselves to lay down fluorescent pink spray paint blazes on the lovely ledges. :( I didn't have time today to see where they went but now I'm curious.
Quiet as usual here today. I only saw three people. One of them is a local who is here all the time and says he only sees 1-2 people per week! |
