Did a counter-clockwise loop starting at the Merrowvista Camp and going up to the ledges overlooking Dan Hole Pond via the Dave Green Trail. Once at the ledge you have to take a right over to Sentinel Mountain but there is no signage for that trail and if you don't have a phone app to show you were to go you're unlikely to find it. Trail to Sentinel is a big tough to follow but there are old orange blazes that will keep you on track. No snow anywhere on this trail aside from the very top of Sentinel. From Sentinel we took the Sentinel Connector Trail back to the ledge then the Canaan Mountain Trail over to the Gorilla Trail. It wasn't until we got a ways up Gorilla that we ran into snow. On the upper reaches of that trail below the summit the trail got very icy over rocky ledges and we had to put on our spikes. We turned around at the top of the ledges where there was a nice view rather than do the final few tenths to the summit because the day was waning and we were concerned about getting done before dark. About 6 miles in all. |
