Perfect day except for the fact we were in the clouds all day. We carried our snowshoes all day and didn't put on our spikes until we were more than half way up Jackson. Trail/path was hard packed like a sidewalk most all the day for us. Higher up the trees were snow laden but it was just cold enough the snow stayed on the trees and it didn't drip all over us. Gray Jays were delightful, three robbers ate my peanut butter pretzel I crushed up for them. One of the three had a tag on its leg. They were most friendly. One guy passed us on the way up, bare booting too. On the top no view and a light breeze. Heading north off the summit the ledges were wind blown and we slipped down on our butts a few times getting off Jackson's summit. Between Jackson and Mizpah Hut the trial was well packed out. A pair coming towards us were wearing mini snowshoes and they weren't even leaving tracks. We ate lunch sitting on our pads on big rocks next to the hut while two other fellows were finishing their lunch closer to the hut on the foundation. Climb up to Piece was fine, good steps. Met a few people worried about how steep it would be for their little dog to get down to the hut, I am sure they were fine. Nice walk over Pierce's summit, still in the clouds. A little wind in our face while we descended Pierce to the Crawford Path, quite a pleasant day overall. Descending the Crawford Path felt like forever like it always does, a bit more slippery because it has seen more traffic and stamping the snow into hard pack slush that will become ice when the temperature does drop. Nice uneventful walk back to the road. We enjoyed the quiet woods covered with about 9 inches of wet snow today (above elevation 2300). From Crawford Trailhead I jogged back down to get my car. We stopped by the Mt. Washington Hotel for a hot chocolate and to look at their beautiful Christmas decorations. Fun day with Becca.
