Took Piper trail up then Liberty to Hammond to Weetamoo to Piper down. No snow at the parking lot which increased to a few inches at the summit- obviously this has all changed since my writing. I used microspikes above about 1900ft where the snow started to become more consistent. Views in and out of the clouds. Personally I thought the trails on the way down were a bit rougher in terms of ice and snow but hard to compare exactly since both ends of the loop were only done in one direction. If you're trying to decide between this side of the mountain and the Kancamagus side- I'd say go with this side. I've done Champney falls trail a couple time and thought this side was much more enjoyable. All in all a good day on a great mountain which maybe need to be an honorable mention '4000 footer' ;) |
